Next Stage

Next Stage is thrilled to welcome Regina Mariano as our Research Fellow this summer through our long-standing partnership with Davidson College's Nonprofit Leadership Fellows Program. Over the next two months, Regina will be conducting secondary research to support major projects across multiple sectors, focusing on nonprofit peer learning and collaboration, workforce development, and access to charitable healthcare.
Regina's own experience navigating different communities and economic contexts shapes how she approaches this work. Here's her reflection on what drew her to Next Stage this summer:
My name is Regina Mariano, and I am this summer’s Research Fellow. I am an Economics and Hispanic Studies double major at Davidson College, where I serve in many roles, such as being a Bonner Scholar, a tour guide, as well as a treasurer for my Eating House.
Coming from Manila, Philippines, and Columbia, South Carolina, I have been passionate about social good due to my background as an immigrant. I’ve experienced living in different walks of life, from a third world country to a rural town in South Carolina all the way to now living in Columbia. I’ve benefitted from many types of programs that nonprofit organizations have arranged, and now it is time for me to use my gains from social mobility to give back to my community.
I am excited to intern at Next Stage this summer and aid in their mission to promote this social good. They are changemakers for nonprofit organizations and government agencies all throughout the country, and I am grateful for their mentorship and dedication to helping me develop my skills and knowledge of the consulting and nonprofit sectors. Additionally, I look forward to exploring the Charlotte area and gathering all the best food spots!
